About Umeå

Umeå is located in northern Sweden and is the capital of Västerbotten. With a population of roughly 130,000 people and a University with 40,000 students, Umeå is a young and vibrant university town. There is also a large teaching hospital located across from the university which is responsible for highly specialized care and service for 876,000 people who live in an area that corresponds to more than half of Sweden.

Covid-19

Sweden currently has no travel restrictions related to Covid-19. The pandemic restrictions in Sweden, along with most of the general advice, were removed on 9 February 2022. Certain advice and recommendations are still in place, according to the Public Health Agency in Sweden:

  • Everyone aged 12 and older should be vaccinated against Covid-19.

  • Stay home and avoid contact with others if you have symptoms that may be Covid-19.

  • Adults who have not been vaccinated should avoid congestion and large crowds indoors.

Protective face masks

Please note that at the conference, Swedish researchers will probably not be wearing face masks since the use of protective face masks in indoor buildings is not recommended or required in Sweden.
However, you are free to wear a face mask if you prefer to do so.
