Short workshop abstract:
This
workshop aims to equip participants with knowledge and skills to engage in
serious illness conversations and reflect on how these conversations can be
utilized in palliative care cross-culturally. The definition and content of
serious illness conversations will be explored and their role in early
palliative care highlighted. Current research in the field will be presented,
followed by a group discussion on potential ethical challenges associated
with these conversations. The workshop will explore palliative care
approaches and cross-cultural experiences in Sweden and Japan through
discussions and activities. Participants will be introduced to the serious
illness conversation guides in English, Swedish and Japanese. There will be
an opportunity to practice having a serious illness conversation using the
provided guides. The workshop will include interactive activities involving
drawing, discussions, and role plays. Opportunities for research
collaborations between Swedish and Japanese researchers will also be explored. A debriefing session will allow for reflection and sharing of
experiences.
